Debra Janell Horton, 39, of New Plymouth, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at home with her family and friends beside her. Cancer may have ravaged her body but not her grace, kindness or love.

Debbie was born in Caldwell on September 19, 1975 to Paul and Nadine Horton. She attended New Plymouth schools graduating in 1993. She continued her education at Treasure Valley Community College graduating with an associate's degree, The College of Idaho graduating with a BA in Psychology and was pursuing a Master's degree in Counseling when doctors discovered her cancer. She was a year from graduating.

During her adult life Debbie was employed in several positions that exemplified her giving personality. She worked for New Plymouth Elementary School with children with special needs, Project Dove as a domestic and sexual abuse counselor and The Family Place as a counselor at the Snake River Correctional Facility. Debbie considered this her "dream job". She was proud that she could support those who were incarcerated.

Debbie had a beautiful voice and sang for weddings and funerals. She also competed in singing competitions throughout the valley. She also loved animals and could be seen feeding stray animals in New Plymouth.

In 1991, Debbie was blessed to be part of a blended family when Nadine married Mike Sigman. She enjoyed adding her step father Mike, two sisters, Heather (Denny) and Patti Tipton (Chris) and a brother Jason Sigman to her family. She would later add niece Caitlyn Denny and nephew Jace Sigman. They continue to be important in the lives of her children.

In 2000, Debbie married James Nelson. To this union their son Ryan (14) was born and he inherited her musical talent. Even though they later divorced, James has remained her best friend and supporter.

In 2004, Debbie was blessed with twin girls Sage and Lane (10) who inherited her love of animals. Her greatest joy was her three children. She supported them and encouraged them to live a life of gratitude and love and to continue her legacy of helping others in need.

Debbie is leaving behind her children, Ryan, Sage and Lane; mother Nadine Horton; grandmother Myrtle Fernandes; brother Benjamin (Debra) and nephew Gage Horton; sister LaNay Horton-Lux (Rick), niece Aubrey and nephews Ian and Jay Lux of Lexington, KY; she is also survived by the Sigman Family, James Nelson, and Lynn Horton.

Debbie is preceded in death by her father Paul Horton, grandfather Alfred Fernandes, and daughter Matraika Rose Horton.

Not enough can be said about the wonderful people in the community of New Plymouth; from churches, schools and 4-H Clubs throughout the county who helped Debbie and her family in so many ways during this very difficult time. We will forever be grateful to all of you.

A Celebration of her life will be held at 4 pm, Monday, April 6th at the First Baptist Church, 204 E Elm St., New Plymouth. The service will be officiated by Chaplain LaNay Horton-Lux and Pastor Phil Pittman.

In lieu of flowers the Horton Family has set up an account at Zion's Bank to help support the education of Sage, Lane and Ryan (ref: Sage Horton Donation at any Zion's Bank).
